Zita Gábor, who passed away at a young age of 34, created widely known and recognized methods for teaching about the Holocaust, a tragedy mankind has still not been able to come to terms with. For her efforts in this field of study, Zita Gábor received the Knight Cross of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic on the 20th of August 2005.
The goal of the foundation is to preserve Zita Gábor’s memory by ensuring that those teachers who lecture about the Holocaust are provided with new, state of the art knowledge that helps them perform their work at a high level.
For this reason the foundation offers a prize every year for candidates from the social, cultural, scientific and artistic fields. Applications are welcome from all individuals and institutions that agree with the objectives of the foundation and believe that their activities might help the achievement of the above stated goals in any area of life.
The detailed conditions of applying will be established by a Body of Experts invited by the Board of Trustees. The same Body will evaluate the applications received and make recommendations for the winning individuals(s)/institution(s). The winner will be determined and announced by the Board of Trustees.
The yearly winner(s) will receive a one-time prize of at least 100,000 HUF, as well as a commemorative medal or plaque inscribed with the motto: "Zita Gábor Foundation, Live Your Life".
It will be the responsibility of the Board of Trustees’ to establish the foundation’s good reputation, and to spread it as widely as possible in Hungary, as well as internationally. In order to achieve this objective, it is their duty to cooperate with researchers, lecturers, and institutions that study the events that happened during the period of the Holocaust.
